Sociological Imagination: The sociological imagination allows us to look at personal issues from a sociological perspective and compare them to public issues. It also incorporates the sociological perspective. In this case poverty is shown on a individual level, but it also reflects our societies problem of poverty.
Culture Shock: Culture shock happens when an individual from one society is exposed to another culture. They are in shock from seeing things that are outside of the norms in their own society.
Beginner's mind: It is important when looking at societies, cultures, groups, etc, to use the beginner's mind. To do so, you must approach from a perspective without preconceptions. It can be compared to a little kid who asks why all the time.
Everyday Actor: in our society we have everyday actors who say "please" and "thank you" without questioning why because they are not concerned with the reasons behind why we do things. This is the opposite of the social analyst who questions everything.
The Glass Ceiling: Using the Macro-level approach to women and men in the workplace, Christine Williams discovered the glass ceiling. Women felt like advancement in their jobs was unattainable, while they could see men getting promotions they were stuck under the ceiling in male-dominated positions.
Glass Escalator: The opposite to the glass ceiling is the glass escalator, where men are put on a fast track to advancement in female-dominated positions. This picture shows women on the escalator, but according to the research, it is men only who get the ride.
